April 2006

World Champ Visits Rayleigh.
The new season starts with a bang on Friday 21st April with the visit of World Indoor Bowls Champion 2006, Mervyn King, who will open the new Clubhouse at 2.30p.m. We hope there will an opportunity for some members to pit their bowling skills against him before the Opening Drive begins in earnest after the Opening Ceremony.
Earlier, we will be entertaining the Councillors, architect and managers who have taken part in the realization of this long held dream. We thank them all for the parts they have played.

The New Building.
The delays to the completion of the building are pushing us to the very limit in our preparations. The vinyl flooring is due to be fitted on Monday10th April. Once this has been done, the kitchen can be fitted, which is due to be delivered on Wednesday 12th. If this occurs successfully, the fitter has guaranteed us that it will be completed on time. The carpet can also be fitted when the vinyl is down.
Benches have had to be reordered in different sizes to compensate for the vagaries of the changing room design, while lockers will provide an interesting puzzle when we try to fit them into the space available. Nevertheless, we remain optimistic.

The New Shed
A concrete garage/shed also should be delivered on the Wednesday, so it could be an interesting day!
